Sing to the tune of "Happy Days are Here Again": A one, and a two, and a three... "Apple Days are here again, And Cashmere's skies are clear again, Take a swig of cider cheer again, Apple Days are here again!"
Apple Days is synonymous with Apple Pie. If you won a blue ribbon at the County Fair, or have a new recipe to try out, be sure to submit your pie entry for judging at the Apple Days Pie Contest.
Cash prizes will be awarded in 3 divisions (men, women, and youth) as well as a grand champion.
Pies should be delivered to the Cashmere Museum by Friday, Sept. 30 for the Oct. 1 judging.
Baked goods of 'anything apple' are being accepted for the Bake Sale. Applesauce cookies, apple bread, apple cobbler and apple pie are all yummy items to contribute.
Blue Star Growers has donated apples for your Bake Sale item that can be picked up at the Museum as long as supplies last.
NEVER FAIL PIE CRUST (4 Nine inch crusts)
3 cups flour
1 1/2 cups lard or vegetable shortening
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg
1 1 Tablespoon cider vinegar
5 Tablespoons cold water
Combine flour, shortening and salt with pastry blender. Add egg and liquid. Divide dough into 4 portions. Wrap in plastic and store in refrigerator until ready to use. Each portion makes one crust. Roll on floured board. Less handling results in a flaky crust.
