Cashmere FFA Fall Review

CHS greenhouse students have worked hard to get their poinsettias ready for your house. These beautiful plants come in 6-inch pots with a bright foil sleeve, and they sell for only $6 each. Pick them up after school this week. Call the school office at 782-2914 for more information. Support your local FFA growers this holiday season!

The Cashmere FFA recently finished an eventful and successful fall.

To start the school year Cashmere welcomed a new face to the Agriculture program. Mr. Rusty Finch came to us from Sumner after spending thirteen very successful years on the “WET” side of the state.

Mr. Finch was thrown right into the fray as Cashmere had over forty exhibitors participating in the North Central Washington District Fair in Waterville, as well as the Chelan County Fair here in Cashmere.

His knowledge of animals was immediately evident to the many FFA members. Following his advice over ninety percent of the exhibitors were awarded blue ribbons with their projects.

Taylor Bostwick, Sarah, Cunning, Lisa Cunning, and Reanna Avey all received numerous Grand and Reserve Grand Champion awards at both fairs with their market livestock and equine projects, as well as claiming first place in the livestock judging contest at Chelan County Fair.

Following our local fairs Cashmere moved on to the Central Washington State Fair in Yakima, where the livestock judging team took second and third place honors overall out of 34 teams from across the State of Washington. The tractor driving team placed fourth with Gavin Burnett as the only contestant to have both a perfect written and driven score.

The tractor driving team competed in the State contest in mid-November taking second place overall. Three members placed in the top ten individuals; Rex Pittsinger 10th, Clyde Sims 6th and Gavin Burnett 2nd.

The Apple Judging teams placed 6th and 7th at the State contest held in Wenatchee on December 7th. This contest is held in conjunction with the Washington State Horticulture Convention.

Currently the Cashmere FFA members are actively selling poinsettias raised in the school greenhouse, and preparing to host a welding competition next Wednesday. If you wish to purchase some of these brilliantly colored holiday plants please contact an FFA Member or call Mr. Finch or Mr. Odenrider at 782-2914.

To all of the community members who have helped our members achieve success this fall we thank you, and wish you and yours a Merry Christmas.
