Cashmere High School hosts Knowledge Bowl

Teams from Ephrata, Cascade, and Cashmere compete in Round 2 of the Cashmere Knowledge Bowl.

Okay, let's see how you would answer this question.

"If Asia Myna is the given name for a talking bird in its native haunts, what is the given name for an Australian arboreal marsupial addicted to a popular carbonated beverage?"

Huh?

Cashmere High School was the site for a regional Knowledge Bowl recently, drawing teams from Quincy, Ephrata, Moses Lake, Leavenworth, and Wenatchee.

According to John Taylor, the Knowledge Bowl advisor for CHS, it has been a good year for the club.

"We've had a great turnout this year," Taylor said. "Over 20 kids have been coming to practices."

For students who want to challenge their general knowledge and maybe learn a thing or two in the process, the Knowledge Bowl just might be their cup of tea.

Brooke Frederick, the visiting Knowledge Bowl coach from Moses Lake, sums up the draw of the program well.

"The kids realize it's fun," Frederick said.

The teams go through two rounds of oral competition, and they try to answer each question before their opponents. Points are given to the team who answers the question first.

The final round is written, and the team who has racked up the most points throughout the event wins the competition.

Have you figured out the answer to the question yet?

Me neither.

Any guesses?
