Junkyard Gypsy's closes storefront but don't say goodbye just yet

Wish Christy Pease and Jessica Tritt good luck as they take Junkyard Gypsy's in a new direction.

The ladies of Junkyard Gypsy's, everyone's favorite recycled art store, are having an all-out clearance sale today and Saturday.

The cash-and-carry sale has some serious deals on what's left in the store. The store is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for only two more days.

Owners Christy Pease and Jessica Tritt are closing their store at the Mission District; however, they are keeping Junkyard Gypsy's very much alive.

This is a time to refocus their business, which will no longer carry second-hand items. They will focus on their popular art as well as that from other local artists, Tritt said on Friday. Junkyard Gypsy's in just two years on Mission District gained a reputation for its quirky reusable art, such as painted furniture, bed frames and tables. The friends and business partners will work from their home studios and sell their art at art shows and on a new website.

To keep up on Junkyard Gypsy's, check out the business' Facebook page. The new website should be up by spring.

"You just have to look a little," Tritt said. "You'll find us."

What did they learn from their time on Mission Avenue?

"It opened our eyes to all the strange things people buy," teased Pease, recalling the time a woman came and bought all the chairs without legs in the shop. "We sold some things we didn't even know what they were."

And the business also got the ladies refocused on what they love.

"Our time here is what got us back into art again," Pease said.
