The Cashmere Chamber Board of Directors on Tuesday elected businesswoman Laurie Shorett as the 2012 Chamber president.
Shorett owns Cascade Valley Inn with her husband, Rick Shorett. The couple opened the beautiful B&B in Cashmere nearly three years ago after an extensive search for a location in the Wenatchee Valley.
"We've had a great time introducing our guests to the valley," Shorett said. "We have many repeat guests who have grown to love the valley for many of the same reasons that drew us to it -- the peaceful lifestyle, the friendly people and all the area has to offer."
Shorett also has an extensive marketing and business background. After using skills in the corporate world, she started Shorett Communications. She has been a small-business owner for 14 years. She also is an avid community volunteer, sitting on several nonprofit boards over the years.
Shorett expects the upcoming year to be another busy one for the Chamber.
"I'm especially excited about the developing partnership between the Chamber and the city and the new opportunities for Cashmere developing from the growth in new business," she said. "I think the 2012 board not only represents a great diversity of businesses but we also have an energetic, enthusasitic group."
The Chamber board also on Tuesday elected its 2012 Executive Board. Alex Cruz, manager of Cashmere Valley Bank, will serve as vice president. Kale Hill, who owns Hill Insurance, will serve as secretary. And Keith Webb, who owns Webb Accountancy, will serve as treasurer.
The 2012 board also consists of: Ken Brownstein, Studebaker's restaurant; Dan Dean, Overall Kitchen & Bath Design; Gordon Irle, former Cashmere mayor; Cindy Fields, Bumfield's Party Rental & Supply; Jan Meredith-Evans, Cashmere Cottage Yarn; Gail Morrison, Crunch Pak; Lisa Wareham, Waterville Winery; and David Weber, Martin's Market Place.
