This is one huge snowman! It stands at least 8 feet tall. I wonder how the builders managed to get the huge head up there?

Yellow umbrellas abound with the cast of "Singin' in the Rain." This, as well as many other professional portraits by River Street Photography, will be available for sale each night of the musical. Half of the proceeds will go toward the fund to upgrade the stage sound system.

River Street Photography will also have individual character portraits like this available for sale.
Finally… snow!: Last week’s dump was the first real snow of the winter, and with that comes snow art in the form of snowmen and women sprouting up in yards all over town. They range from short to tall, fairly fat to really fat, and tend to put a positive spin on the hand Old Man Winter deals us. I took this photo on Cottage Avenue after one of the warmer days, so the subject shows what warm weather can do to a man made of snow. But, hey... he's still fun to look at.
Gene Kelly would be proud: Although the first of February is still officially the middle of winter, rain will be falling in the middle school that night. But don’t worry Cashmere taxpayers – the newest school in our district still has a good roof that doesn’t leak. The rain will be falling on the stage Wednesday night for the first showing of the high school’s spring musical “Singin’ in the Rain.” Just exactly how they are going to pull that off remains a mystery, but knowing director extraordinaire Susan Gubsch, it’ll be raining cats and dogs for that number Gene Kelly made famous dancin’ and singin’ in the rain. In fact, to get you in the right mood, check out this video clip: click here. The annual musical runs Feb. 1-4, and starts at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:15.) Tickets are on sale at the high school – see high school money guru Angie Landes – $8 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. This is yet another “must see” performance by our award-winning high school drama department. NOTE: Since last year’s production sold out early, don’t procrastinate. Tickets are still very much available, but they are going fast. Trust me, you’ll be VERY disappointed if you show up at the door only to find out that performance is sold out. Oh yeah… “People also might want to arrive early as we have a surprise ‘improv’ activity planned before the show,” Mrs. Gubsch adds. Hmmm. Umbrellas optional.
Speaking of the middle school stage…: River Street Photography (www.riverstreetphoto.com) is teaming up with the school district drama departments to raise funds for enhancing the middle school stage sound system. Michael, Mary, and Kate are making available professional portraits of each character in “Singin’ in the Rain.” These keepsake portraits (think cool gifts for grandmas, grandpas, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, not to mention yourself) will be displayed and available for purchase each of the play’s 4 nights. Here’s the great part… half of the proceeds from the sale of the portraits will be going back to the school district, earmarked for the stage sound system fundraiser. Buy a professional portrait of your someone special and, at the same time, help our outstanding school drama departments’ performances become even better!
