Out and about in C-town – October 28: special “Rumors” edition

Cashmere High School Drama Department's "Rumors" cast on the set.

Comical plot: Charlie and Myra Brock are throwing a plush party to celebrate their 10th anniversary of wedded bliss (?). Charlie is the Deputy Mayor of New York, and he has some very affluent and somewhat ethically challenged friends. The opening scene features Ken and Chris Gorman (Michael McCormick and Karley Blomquist), as the first guests to have arrived. They have discovered that their host has been shot in his earlobe, and their hostess, along with their kitchen staff, is nowhere to be found. Ken is a high-strung lawyer and frantically tries to come up with a way to cover for his friend and client, the honorable Deputy Mayor. Lenny and Claire Ganz (Alexander Robertson and Hannah Capelo) are the next guests to arrive, and they are stressed out because their brand new BMW was bashed in on their drive over. Lenny complains of a sore neck and Claire whines about a fat lip. Rumors start to fly about who is having an affair with whom. Psychologist Ernie Cusack and his eccentric wife Cookie (Eli Miller and Erica Elias) join in the fray. The arrival of Glenn and Cassie Cooper (Cody Lippert and Ariana Rodriguez) is loud and strained, as they try very little to hide their dysfunctional marriage. Mayhem ensues as all stressed relationships intertwine in a very funny way. And when NYPD’s best - Officer Welch (Nona Isenhart) and Officer Pudney (Shelby Simonson) - show up,… well, I don’t want to spoil it. Make tracks to see it for yourself!

Timing is everything: All of the great comedians would probably agree that one of the most critical aspects of good comedy is timing. The cast of Rumors clearly put in a lot of practice and effort to get their timing down to near perfection.

Casting: Once again Director Susan Gubsch nailed it with her casting choices. Each cast member seemed to slip right in to their character’s persona.

Nice set!: The entire production takes place in the plush living room of Charlie and Myra Brock. Great attention to detail made this setting interesting and believable. That was fake booze, wasn’t it?

"Rumors" MVP: As a salute to Game 7 of the World Series tonight... The MVP for Rumors would have to be... Alexander Robertson. No, wait... Michael McCormick. I mean... Karley Blomquist. No...Hannah Capelo. Ummm... Cody Lippert. Oh, forget it. How about the entire cast?
