The Tillicum Riders are pulling double duty this week by hosting the Beer Garden at the fair Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as the Salute to 9/11 in the Rodeo Arena Sunday afternoon
Beer Garden at the Fair!: You can find more than just farm animals, Davis Shows Carnival rides, and cotton candy at the Fair – you can also wash down all that fair food with a tall cold one at the Tillicum Riders Beer Garden located by the Rodeo Arena. And for all those cowboys and cowgirls who just might want something with a little more kick, they will also offer Pendleton Whiskey. The Beer Garden opens Friday night at 6:00 and Saturday and Sunday at noon. Beat the unseasonably hot weather with a nice cold beer! You can also enjoy watching the Rodeo from the Beer Garden, as well as the Tillicum Riders Drill Team when they perform in the arena Saturday and Sunday.
Wine Garden and Wine Tasting, too?: Yes! The Main Auditorium - directly south of the rodeo arena - is the location of the Wine Garden and Wine Tasting. At least 13 local wineries have booths set up for wine tasting, which happens Friday and Saturday from 5-7 p.m. You can also see the results of the amateur wine making contest where Best of Show honors went to Chateau Grenz owners John Butler and Glenn Liner of Wenatchee. Cashmere resident Stacee Snider took a blue ribbon and the Judges Special Award for a pinot noir she made. The Wine Garden is reserved for anyone at least 21 years of age, and their hours are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 2-9 p.m. Get out of the hot sun and enjoy some wonderful local wines!
Salute to 9/11: To commemorate the tenth anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11, the Tillicum Riders are planning to do a special tribute on Sunday afternoon (approximately 1:30) before the start of the rodeo. "In addition to the flags of the United States and Canada, each branch of the military will be represented by their flag," said Cindy Fowler, president of the Tillicum Riders. "Several local fire departments have also been invited to participate." The music for the presentation will be "Where were you (when the world stopped turning)" by Alan Jackson. Let's fill the grandstands for this special patriotic tribute!
You may be able to see your fair food a second time: What's the fair without carnival rides? Davis Shows Carnival returns with their rides to turn your stomach upside down. Youngsters can handle the spinning-horizontally-and-vertically-simultaneously gig and get off smiling and wanting more, but for white haired guys like me who get dizzy on a simple swing, bad things that have been in dark places may be hurled through the air. The firm ground is my happy place, thank you very much.
