Cashmere High School ninth grader Tianna Helm nominated her Spanish teacher, Fawnda Simonson, for Numerica Credit Union's First Class School Champion for November.
Cashmere, Wash. - Numerica Credit Union’s First Class School Champion for November, Fawnda Simonson, was announced in a surprise assembly at Cashmere High School on Wednesday, December 7.
Ninth-grade student, Tianna Helm, nominated the Spanish teacher because she admires Simonson’s strength and discipline.
“I have never had someone make me feel as good about myself as Mrs. Simonson does for accomplishing something,” Helm described in her essay. “For the first time in a while I actually felt proud of myself for doing so well in school.”
“She (Simonson) reassured me that I was on the right path and gave me the motivation to keep going,” Helm described.
Simonson received a recognition plaque, a bag of goodies, and $100 for her school or department. Helm received $25, goodies, and was entered into a drawing for an Apple iPod, along with all other students who submitted a nomination essay. The drawing will be held at the end of the school year. Both will receive media recognition on local radio stations and in the newspaper.
First Class School Champion Award winners are selected during the school year, September through May. Students can nominate their favorite school employee who works within the North Central Washington area. A committee will select each winner. Nomination forms can be found at school offices or online at numericacu.com.
