Ski Tow up Nahahum Canyon

Downhill skis have evolved exponentially from the ones that were used 53 years ago when the rope tow was in operation up Nahahum Canyon.

This is information taken from a story on 1-16-1958 in the Cashmere Valley Record & from a history of skiing by Wilfred Woods of the Wenatchee World.

The Active Club sponsored ski area up Nahahum Canyon opened last Sunday & was in use that day until the rope broke. There was no tow service the rest of the day but the rope is now in operation again. That with the abundance of snow & new runs should attract a good crowd this week-end. The skiers only lost about an hour of tow service since the rope broke late in the day. The rope tow is six miles up the canyon on the old Matt Hickey ranch. Earl Barnes told Wilfred that the tow came from Chelan Butte. His father, Faye Barnes, got it from Kent Addis & moved it to the canyon. It was powered by an old Chevrolet engine & attracted lots of skiers from the valley.
Ski enthusiasts who wish to use the tow will find it running Saturday afternoons & Sunday with the cost at 75c a per day. The tow begins operation at 10:00am on Sunday. Skiers will also find the warming hut convenient when they wish to rest awhile. Coffee & hot dogs will be available at the ski hut.

I bet there are folks around Cashmere who remember skiing there. I urge everyone interested in history like I am to find someone who will tell their story about the ski tow in Nahahum Canyon.
