"If I've told you once, I've told you 250 times... climb every mountain!"
Flash back to 1995 and the auditions for Leavenworth Summer Theater's inaugural season of The Sound of Music. Susan Gubsch decided to throw her acting ability and vocal chords into the mix, and, no surprise here - she got the part of Mother Abbess.
Except for a one year sabbatical, Gubsch has portrayed the wise matronly saint each year since in the widely popular production at the scenic Leavenworth Ski Hill location. If you add them all up, she recently surpassed the 250 performances mark.
If you've ever heard her sing 'Climb Every Mountain', the show's foundational song, you'll understand why audiences return year after year to hear her sing.
Gubsch is not only a very talented actress and vocalist, she's also an award winning high school musical director and one of Cashmere School District's many outstanding teachers. Case in point: there are several of her students - both former and current - performing this season with the Leavenworth Summer Theater.
What a privilege to have such talent in our community, both as a performer and teacher for our students.
